History:

Three 1980 Lightning Indy cars were designed by David Bruns and built by Dave Klym of FABCAR.

Chassis LHR B-002 ran the 1981 Indy 500. Gary Bettenhausen was the driver. The car was powered by a Cosworth turbocharged DFX engine. The car qualified 11th and finished 26th after a fire and a failed connecting rod. The Crew Chief was Mike Devin and the Owner / Sponsor was Lindsey Hopkins.

The car was Bettenhausen's back up car at the 1982 Indy 500. Crew Chief was Chuck Bockman.

In 1983 the car, with a Chevy V6 twin turbo and also a Chevy V8 engine, was driven by Gary Bettenhausen who failed to qualify for the Indy 500. The car was also driven in the 1983 Domino's 500 at Pocono, the 1983 Dana-Rex Mays 150 at Milwaukee. The car is still in the same livery as it was in 1983.
