History
- Originally Sold by Dan Gurney's All American Racers (Santa Ana, CA) to native Californian and long time race team owner Jerry O'Connell (Sugaripe Prune) for Driver Mike Mosley and Chief Mechanic Judd Phillips. Mosley campaigned chassis 74-08 during the most of 1975 season with 4 Top Ten finishes, 2 podium finishes, and the race winner of the 1975 Toney Bettenhausen 200 ( Milwaukee Mile).
- Later in the 1975 season the car was raced by 3x Indy 500 winner, Bobby Unser, at the 1975 Michigan Grand Prix where he finished 3rd in dramatic fashion by crashing and sliding across the finish line. The car was not heavily damaged but, during the crash Bobby broke his leg and was out for the remainder of the season. The following race, The Trenton Times 200, Jerry O'Connel enlisted 4x Indy 500 winner, Al Unser to drive to a 4th place finish. For the final race of the 1975 season, (Phoenix 150) O'Connell brought F1 World Champ, Mario Andretti to drive chassis 74-08 to a 3rd place podium finish.
- 1976 brought the return of Mike Mosley to the Sugaripe team where he campaigned the car the entire season. Mosley had 8 top tens finishes including 1st Place at The Milwaukee Mile, and 2nd place at The Schaefer 500 (Pocono Raceway). For the 1977 season chassis 74-08 was raced for the first 4 races of the season where Mosley's best finish came at Trenton where he finished 3rd. The team then acquired a Lightning chassis for Mosley to campaign for the remainder of the season but, chassis 74-08 would have one more outing for Team Sugaripe with Vern Schuppan at Mosport where he retired early with a broken half shaft finishing 19th. At the end of the 1977 season, chassis 74-08 was sold to Jim McElreath Racing.
- In 1978 Jim McElreath (Jim McElreath Racing) campaigned the car for 9 USAC / Indy Car races with 3 top tens finishes. After the 1978 season, the car sat unused for over a decade when we purchased the car from McElreath and began a complete restoration to it's original specification and livery.
