1968 Eagle Indy Car - SOLD!

1968 AAR Eagle, Chassis 40-1

History

Dan Gurney's 1st 1968 Eagle (Chassis 40-1) produced for the legendary team owner, Lindsey Hopkins,of the Coca Cola Fortune. At the 1968 Indianapolis 500, McCluskey originally tried to qualify this car with a normally aspirated Ford 4 Cam but was unable to get the car up to competitive speeds. The decision was made to install a more powerful turbo Offenhauser engine. As a result, Roger McCluskey qualified this car 7th for the 1968 Indy 500 and ran as high as 2nd place before being sidelined with a cooler leak. McCluskey campaigned this car for the 1968 season with many top ten finishes and several podiums. If desired, a normally aspirated Ford 4 Cam can be reinstalled as the chassis retains it's original engine mounts.
