1969 AAR Eagle Indy Car, Chassis 703

History

1969 Eagle Santa Ana Indy Car, one of four built. Serial # 703. City of Daytona Beach Special. Legendary race car and engine builder Smokey Yunick purchased the car from manufacturer Dan Gurney. Joe Leonard qualified the car for the 1969 Indianapolis 500 and ran as high as second place before a hose clamp thrown up from another car punctured the radiator. The car started 11th. Finished 6th. After the race Smokey collected the hose clamp and had it framed as the "$200,000 Hose Clamp" for the amount he would have won as the race winner. (Picture Below)
